The first nationwide lockdown in the UK was announced on the 23rd March 2020. This was weeks after other countries in Europe. Experts and MPs have since claimed that locking down earlier would have saved a significant number of lives.

I very distinctly remember the feeling when we first went into lockdown in 2020. We’d seen what was happening in other countries. We knew the virus was spreading in the UK. We just had to wait now for the hammer to fall and for people to start dying.
It was a very surreal feeling of numbness and dread, this limbo waiting for the catastrophe to unfold that nobody could now stop.
